Klang, Malaysia – 23 November 2025
The United Economic Summit 2025, hosted by the United Diplomatic Council (UDC) in Klang, Malaysia, convened leaders from diplomatic, political, and business spheres for a day of meaningful dialogue and economic engagement. Set against the backdrop of India’s expanding role within the ASEAN framework, the summit reaffirmed the shared commitment of India, Malaysia, and Southeast Asia to develop deeper, more resilient partnerships aimed at mutual growth.
The gathering witnessed the participation of respected political representatives, including members of Klang’s leadership, the Malaysia Chinese Association, the Malaysian business community, and prominent voices from the Indian diaspora in Malaysia. Their involvement reflected Klang’s rising stature as a centre for international economic diplomacy and reinforced the city’s ambition to serve as a bridge between Asian and global markets.
A defining moment of the summit was the appointment of Srrest Verma as the Trade Commissioner (ASEAN–Malaysia) for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The appointment comes at a time when relations between Andhra Pradesh and Malaysia are marked by renewed dynamism. Andhra Pradesh—home to a rapidly expanding industrial base, a vibrant technology ecosystem, and some of India’s most forward-looking infrastructure and maritime assets—aligns naturally with Malaysia’s objectives of diversifying trade, advancing manufacturing capabilities, and strengthening its footprint within South Asia. Malaysian investors have shown growing interest in sectors such as food processing, renewable energy, logistics, digital innovation, and port-related enterprises, all areas where Andhra Pradesh has emerged as a competitive global player.
Conversely, the new appointment is also poised to encourage businesses from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to view Malaysia not only as a bilateral partner but as an accessible gateway to the wider ASEAN region. With its stable regulatory environment, multicultural landscape, digital strengths, and robust connectivity, Malaysia remains one of Southeast Asia’s most attractive hubs for Indian enterprises seeking expansion into regional markets.
Earlier this year, the India–ASEAN framework was further strengthened when the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO), in collaboration with the India ASEAN Trade Council, led a high-level ministerial and business delegation to Malaysia ahead of the ASEAN Summit. This visit reinforced Malaysia’s position as a pivotal partner and highlighted the country’s growing relevance in India’s broader regional outreach.
Reflecting on the appointment, Srrest Verma stated.
“My priority will be to strengthen the economic and cultural bridge between Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Malaysia, and to open new avenues of cooperation that allow both sides to grow, innovate, and prosper together.”

Speaking on the broader significance of the summit, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the United Economic Summit, remarked.
“Srrest Verma’s appointment reflects the growing trust between India and Malaysia and reinforces our shared intention to foster sustainable, future-oriented partnerships. We are confident that his leadership will help unlock new dimensions of collaboration across the ASEAN landscape.”
As the summit drew to a close, the atmosphere resonated with optimism and a renewed sense of direction. The appointment of Srrest Verma stands not only as a testament to the strengthening partnership between India and Malaysia but also as a meaningful signal that collaboration between Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the wider ASEAN region is poised to deepen with greater strategic clarity and long-term vision. In alignment with this forward-looking momentum, the India–ASEAN Council announced its plan to open its offices in Hyderabad, creating an institutional bridge that will further accelerate engagement, facilitate investment, and solidify India’s growing connectivity with Southeast Asia.
