Delegation of the Indian Economic Trade Organization met the Ambassador His Excellency Alaihuddin bin Haji Mohamad Taha in New Delhi to discuss upcoming bilateral trade engagements between both countries.
Recently the visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit pushed the India-Brunei ties to elevate Bilateral Ties to ‘Enhanced Partnership’. This symbolizes a new phase in India-Brunei relations, with a focus on mutual cooperation and shared strategic interests. It was the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei since both countries established diplomatic relations in 1984.
This visit Acknowledged to expand defence cooperation through joint exercises, training programs etc. and also agreed on the importance of pursuing a policy of development rather than expansionism in Southeast Asia.
Both countries agreed to work together for enhanced multilateralism reflective of contemporary realities. Further Cooperation in the operation of Telemetry, Tracking, and Telecommand Station for Satellite and Launch Vehicles was discussed with everaging respective strengths including in technology, finance, manufacturing and processing.
Brunei is an Important partner in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision and is also an ASEAN member. Approximately 14,000 Indians are residing in Brunei. India is one of the largest importers of crude oil from Brunei (approximately USD 500-600 million every year).

The Delegation was invited to the launching of the Royal Brunei Airlines on November 5th in Chennai. The incoming delegation will comprise of top businessmen from the country, Later an Indian delegation is proposed to travel with a reciprocal gesture to engage with the businesses in Brunei for futher people to people co-operation.
Ambassadaor Haji Mohamad Taha started his career as the personal assistant to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zakaria Sulaiman, after joining the ministry in August 1984. He had two postings overseas: the Brunei high commission in New Zealand, where he worked as a second secretary in 1986, and the Brunei embassy in Washington, D.C where he held the same position from 1987 to 1990. After his return to Brunei in 1990, he worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Southeast Asian political section in 1991. He headed the Brunei delegation to the fifty-fourth session of the General Assembly in 1994.
Alaihuddin was sent overseas once more in 1995, this time to work for the Brunei high commission in London as first secretary and then acting minister counselor. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was appointed deputy director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2004, he was the Ministry of Communications’ permanent secretary. As the new Permanent Representative of Brunei to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Alaihuddin presented his credentials to Sergei Ordzhonikidze on 13 August 2007.Dato Alaihuddin was appointed as the Brunei high commissioner to Malaysia on 25 November 2014.
