India–Sierra Leone relations are witnessing renewed momentum through the growing engagement of Indian business and healthcare leaders, with Simardeep Singh Chhabra, Director of Green Genome India Pvt. Ltd., emerging as an important contributor to advancing economic and healthcare cooperation between the two countries.
This growing engagement was reflected at the recent India–Sierra Leone Diplomatic Dinner, which brought together diplomats, business leaders and representatives from Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Iraq, Uganda, Oman, Brazil and India. Held under the umbrella of the United Diplomatic Council (UDC) and the India Africa Trade Council (IATC), the gathering provided a platform for dialogue on opportunities in healthcare, technology, trade, investment, agriculture, manufacturing and other sectors of mutual interest.
Among the distinguished guests was H.E. Mr. Rashid Sesay, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the United Arab Emirates, India and Bangladesh. His participation reflected Sierra Leone’s growing interest in strengthening engagement with Indian businesses and institutions and exploring new avenues for bilateral cooperation.
The engagement between Ambassador Sesay and Simardeep extended beyond the diplomatic dinner. During his visit to the BHISHMA facility, the Ambassador was briefed on the technology and capabilities associated with India’s Aarogya Maitri initiative and expressed his appreciation for Simardeep’s contribution to the healthcare sector and his efforts to take Indian healthcare innovation to international markets.
Through Green Genome India Pvt. Ltd., Simardeep has been associated with initiatives spanning healthcare, biotechnology, genomics, diagnostics and medical technologies. His involvement with the BHISHMA Cube, developed under the Aarogya Maitri initiative to provide rapid emergency healthcare and humanitarian assistance, represents an important component of his broader vision for expanding the reach of Indian healthcare capabilities internationally.
Speaking on the growing India–Sierra Leone partnership, Simardeep said, “India and Sierra Leone have tremendous potential to build a partnership based on shared priorities, innovation and mutual development. Our objective is to take Indian capabilities in healthcare and technology to Sierra Leone while creating meaningful opportunities for businesses and institutions from both countries to work together. Strong relationships are built through sustained collaboration, and I remain committed to contributing to this important journey.”
The evening also marked another significant milestone in Simardeep’s growing engagement with the diplomatic and business community, with his nomination as Director of the Diplomatic CEO Club. The appointment further reflects his efforts to strengthen connections between the corporate sector and the diplomatic community and facilitate meaningful opportunities for international business cooperation.
Simardeep’s growing engagement with Sierra Leone comes at a time when the country is seeking to expand international partnerships across sectors including healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, mining, tourism and technology. For India, these areas present significant opportunities to translate longstanding diplomatic relations into stronger commercial partnerships, technology exchange and development-oriented cooperation.
Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the United Diplomatic Council, said, “Simardeep’s collaborative efforts towards strengthening engagement between India and Sierra Leone are highly commendable. His commitment to connecting Indian healthcare innovation, technology and business capabilities with international partners can make a meaningful contribution to bilateral relations. I am confident that his continued engagement will contribute significantly to strengthening the India–Sierra Leone partnership and creating new avenues of cooperation between the two countries.”
The India–Sierra Leone engagement reflects the growing role of private-sector leadership in complementing traditional diplomacy and creating tangible avenues for international cooperation. Through his work in healthcare, technology and economic diplomacy, Simardeep is contributing to a broader vision of strengthening India’s partnerships with Sierra Leone and the wider African continent, with the potential to create lasting value for businesses, institutions and communities in both countries.
