Representatives of the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) recently met Her Excellency Mrs. Lalatiana Accouche, High Commissioner of the Republic of Seychelles to India, to discuss avenues of bilateral cooperation, trade promotion, investment partnerships, and institutional collaboration between the two nations.
The meeting reflected the growing importance of India–Seychelles relations and highlighted the shared vision of enhancing economic cooperation, tourism partnerships, maritime collaboration, and sustainable development initiatives between both countries.
Situated in the western Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa, Seychelles is a group of 115 islands internationally known for its unique cultural heritage as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), natural landscapes, tourism industry, and strategic maritime significance. Over the years, Seychelles has evolved into an important economic and geopolitical partner within the Indian Ocean region.
India and Seychelles share longstanding and cordial bilateral relations based on maritime security, economic development, healthcare collaboration, and cultural ties. Over the years, India has played an important role in supporting Seychelles through developmental partnerships, infrastructure cooperation, educational initiatives, and capacity-building programs.
During the interaction, discussions focused on strengthening business-to-business partnerships and exploring opportunities across sectors including tourism and hospitality, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, renewable energy, infrastructure, logistics, information technology, education, food processing, marine economy, and sustainable investments.
For Indian businesses, Seychelles continues to emerge as an ideal destination for strategic expansion and partnership opportunities. Its investor-friendly environment, stable governance framework, growing tourism economy, international connectivity, and strategic location in the Indian Ocean make it highly attractive for Indian companies looking to expand into African and regional markets.
As part of its continued engagement initiatives, IETO is also planning a high-level business and diplomatic delegation to Seychelles during the next quarter of 2026.
Speaking on the importance of the engagement, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO), stated:
“The relationship between India and Seychelles continues to grow stronger through mutual cooperation, strategic understanding, and shared regional interests. Seychelles holds significant potential for Indian businesses across tourism, healthcare, infrastructure, sustainability, and blue economy sectors. IETO remains committed to strengthening these partnerships and creating meaningful platforms that encourage long-term economic growth and regional collaboration.”
The meeting marks another important step in deepening India–Seychelles economic and diplomatic engagement while focusing on IETO’s commitment towards fostering stronger international partnerships across emerging global markets.
