The India Commonwealth Trade Council (ICTC), Gujarat, recently held a strategic meeting with Mr. Vishal Zaveri, Director – Chamber and Corporate Engagement, Alberta-India Chamber of Commerce (AICC), marking an important step toward strengthening trade and institutional collaboration between ICTC and Canada.
The interaction brought together key representatives from both organisations, including Mr. Viral Chaudhary, Honorary Chairman, ICTC Gujarat, along with Mr. Mitesh Zaveri of Vinayak Associates. From the AICC side, Mr. Vishal Zaveri outlined the Chamber’s mandate and its growing role in facilitating India–Canada trade engagement. AICC works closely with provincial stakeholders in Alberta, one of Canada’s most resource-rich and economically influential provinces.
Discussions highlighted Alberta’s strategic importance as the third-largest oil-producing region globally and among Canada’s wealthiest provinces, with a strong intent to expand trade relations with India. Under the current provincial leadership, Alberta is actively pursuing diversified international partnerships, creating timely opportunities for Indian—and particularly Gujarati—enterprises. Gujarat’s strengths in manufacturing, industrial textiles, engineering goods, energy services, chemicals, agri-processing, and emerging technologies position it as a natural partner for Alberta’s evolving economic priorities.
Both ICTC and AICC identified priority sectors for collaboration, including energy and oil and gas services, industrial and insulation textiles, agriculture and agri-commodities such as canola oil and pulses, beverages and distilleries, tourism promotion, sports equipment manufacturing, and industrial infrastructure. Alberta’s growing demand for dependable suppliers—especially in oilfield services and industrial materials—presents meaningful opportunities for Indian companies recognised for their technical capability and competitive delivery.
AICC confirmed its readiness to support ICTC’s upcoming Canada business delegation planned for the second half of the year, agreeing to serve as the local institutional partner. This initiative builds on earlier engagement when ICTC hosted a Canadian business delegation from Vancouver, during which H.E. Masakui Rungsung, Consul General of India in Vancouver, invited ICTC to lead a structured Indian business delegation to Canada. Both organisations agreed to move forward with the signing of a formal Memorandum of Understanding, outlining sectoral priorities, cooperation mechanisms, and a shared roadmap for sustained trade engagement.
This engagement reflects ICTC’s broader mandate to position India as a strong gateway for global trade partnerships and to support Indian enterprises in accessing international markets through structured institutional collaboration. With clear complementarities between Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem and Alberta’s economic priorities, the partnership between ICTC and AICC lays the groundwork for long-term cooperation, increased trade flows, and deeper India–Canada business engagement in the months ahead.
