Moscow, Russia: The India–Russia Trade Conference, organised by the SCO Trade Council Russia, concluded successfully in Moscow, reiterating the growing economic partnership between India and Russia and reinforcing the broader vision of trade-led cooperation among the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
With India and Russia steadily expanding their strategic partnership, the conference focused on translating strong diplomatic relations into tangible commercial outcomes. Discussions centred on strengthening market access, promoting joint ventures, facilitating cross-border investments, encouraging technology transfer, and creating new opportunities for businesses seeking to expand into each other’s markets.
A major highlight of the conference was the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Indian and Russian organisations across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, food processing, energy, logistics, infrastructure, information technology, education, and skill development. These agreements are expected to serve as the foundation for long-term institutional cooperation and private sector collaboration.
As India and Russia work towards achieving the ambitious US$100 billion bilateral trade target by 2030, the conference provided an important platform for enterprises from both countries to identify investment opportunities, establish strategic partnerships, and develop sustainable business relationships that contribute to economic growth.
The conference was attended by Prof. Dr. A. V. Srinivasan, Chairman of the SCO Trade Council India, and Mr. Alexander Shapiro-Suliman, Director of the SCO Trade Council Russia, with the valuable support of Mr. Vitaly, whose efforts played an instrumental role in the successful organisation of the event.
“Economic diplomacy succeeds when it creates measurable opportunities for businesses and lasting partnerships between nations. The India–Russia Trade Conference reflects the SCO Trade Council’s commitment to transforming dialogue into action by connecting enterprises, facilitating investments, and strengthening economic cooperation across the SCO region. “
— Prof. Dr. A. V. Srinivasan, Chairman, SCO Trade Council
Following the successful conclusion of the Moscow conference, the SCO Trade Council delegation travelled to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where it had the honour of participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. The summit brought together representatives from SCO member states and dialogue partners to deliberate on regional economic integration, connectivity, trade facilitation, investment, innovation, sustainable development, and multilateral cooperation.
The conference brought together senior government representatives, diplomats, industry leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, chambers of commerce, and trade institutions from both countries to explore new opportunities for bilateral trade, investment, technology collaboration, and industrial partnerships.
“India’s engagement with the SCO region is entering a new phase where institutional collaboration and business diplomacy are becoming equally important. Through initiatives such as the India–Russia Trade Conference, we are creating platforms that enable industries, entrepreneurs, and investors to work together in building resilient supply chains, expanding trade, and fostering sustainable economic growth. These partnerships will continue to contribute significantly to regional prosperity and global economic cooperation.”
— Dr. Asif Iqbal, President, SCO Trade Council
The India–Russia Trade Conference demonstrated the importance of sustained institutional dialogue in building stronger commercial relationships between SCO member states. As businesses increasingly seek reliable international partners and diversified markets, such initiatives are expected to accelerate investment, promote innovation, and unlock new opportunities for trade across the Eurasian region.
With a clear focus on economic cooperation, investment facilitation, and strategic partnerships, the SCO Trade Council remains committed to serving as a bridge between governments, institutions, and the global business community, ensuring that diplomacy continues to deliver practical outcomes that contribute to shared growth, regional stability, and long-term prosperity.
The consecutive engagements in Moscow and Bishkek reflected the growing role of the SCO Trade Council in advancing regional economic diplomacy and strengthening commercial engagement across Eurasia. By creating platforms that connect governments with the private sector, the Council continues to facilitate international partnerships that generate meaningful business opportunities and support long-term economic development.
