In a series of high-level discussions aimed at strengthening trade and diplomatic ties between India and Europe, the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) has been actively engaging with key leaders across the continent. Fresh from a productive meeting in Poland, the IETO team arrived in Belgium to focus on establishing the India EU Trade Council in Brussels. This council is envisioned as a critical bridge for enhancing trade, cultural, and diplomatic relations between India and the European Union.
During their time in Belgium, the IETO delegation met with Mr. Awad Chamas, President of Euro Gulf Belgium and an independent economic expert with vast knowledge of Africa and the Middle East as part of the Soul of Europe initiative. His expertise in these regions, combined with his experience as a diplomatic adviser, made him an ideal partner to discuss strategies for deepening India-EU engagement. The meeting was treated with great positivity, with both sides recognizing the shared vision and potential for long-lasting collaboration.

A Fruitful Dialogue with Shared Goals
The discussions with Mr. Chamas centered around building India’s trade presence in Europe, particularly by establishing the India EU Trade Council in Brussels, a city already central to EU operations. Both Mr. Chamas and IETO leaders expressed a commitment not only to strengthen economic ties but also to foster cultural and diplomatic engagement between the regions. They emphasized that this council would go beyond traditional trade, promoting mutual understanding and long-term partnerships.
Reflecting on the productive discussions, Mr. Chamas shared his enthusiasm, stating, “The Indian market offers immense potential, and there is much Europe can learn from India’s resilience and innovation. By fostering closer ties, we can open doors to a new era of cooperation that benefits both regions.” He added, “Brussels is a critical hub for the EU, and having the India EU Trade Council here will be a game-changer in bridging the two regions. I am fully committed to seeing this vision become a reality.”
In alignment with this vision, IETO’s Vice President, Mr. Wali Kashvi, commented, “Meeting Mr. Chamas was inspiring. His insights into Africa and the Middle East bring invaluable depth as we build stronger European connections. Establishing the India EU Trade Council will create a direct link for Indian businesses to Europe, strengthening our presence in Brussels. After the success of our meetings in Poland, we’re thrilled to continue building this momentum in Belgium.”

Planning for the February Delegation and Forum
A highlight of the meeting was the agreement to organize an upcoming delegation and forum in February, aimed at fostering collaboration and bringing together influential voices from both regions. Both IETO and Mr. Chamas are dedicated to making this event a cornerstone for meaningful engagement between India and Europe. Planning will commence immediately to ensure this forum serves as a powerful platform for business, innovation, and diplomacy.
Bridging Continents, Cultures, and Opportunities
The discussions emphasized that the India EU Trade Council would be more than an economic bridge; it would also foster cultural exchange, innovation sharing, and strategic collaboration. Mr. Chamas remarked, “This council will go beyond trade. It will embody a partnership rooted in mutual respect, learning, and shared objectives, creating sustainable and inclusive growth opportunities.”
With a shared vision and commitment, both IETO and Mr. Chamas look forward to building a dynamic India EU Trade Council in Brussels. This initiative is set to strengthen India’s ties with Europe, creating pathways for growth, mutual understanding, and shared prosperity.
